Sunday into Monday
Sunday came without the heatwave we were promised.
We did however manage to finish off the woodwork around the outside
of the caravan and to do some cleaning inside and out before
getting our togs on for an afternoon and evening in Ulverston with friends.
The meet up was rearranged from its original day Saturday and it turned
out well as everywhere was quiet which suited us.
After drinks in Maria and Patrick’s garden we headed off
for a meal in The Mill in the centre of Ulverston, a mere five minute
walk from their house.
The Mill was formerly one of the town’s main flour mills, supplying flour to generations
of families in Ulverston, South Lakeland’s.
Parts of the Grade ll listed mill date back to the 12th century. There are still many
original features still retained there, including the huge working waterwheel.
Then onto Old Friends pub for the menfolk to test out
the local beers. Again it was very quiet, thankfully.
The pub is a former sea captain’s house built in the 17th century and grade ll listed.
Beers are sourced locally plus three brewed by their own brewery.
We took the long way back from the pub with a bit of fun and games
along the way.
There was talk of buying this spooky old house and renovating it.
Us womenfolk said no chance we’ve done that, ticked it
off and got the T-shirt.
Ulverston is such a pretty colourful little town.
The light started to go down as we returned to Jolly Tall Cottage,
as Pat & Maria’s home is fondly named
and we were greeted by one of the four kitties that live with them.
The neighbours are cat lovers as well with five of their own.
There’s a great field for them all to play in.
A fire pit was lit, more laughter, beer and snacks consumed
before we headed off back 15 minutes up the road to our caravan.
Days like this are ones to be treasured.
Take care
Lynn
