Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits

The hype around Kylie Cosmetics has really died down so of course this is when i jump on the bandwagon, late as usual. There was a time when you couldn't get your hands on a lip kit unless you were truly dedicated to the cause. Before i talk about anything else i just want to say, no matter what your thoughts about Kylie Jenner are, she has done such an amazing job with the growth of her brand and she really did start the lip kit hype. Since launching her lip kit, lots of beauty brand have tried to recreate this concept but everyone knows Kylie is the OG.

I've been thinking about trying to get some lip kits for a while but the time presented itself on Cinco De Mayo when Kylie did a buy one get one free offer on all of her lip kits. When i added it all up it was the time that i was going to get the most for my money. I ended up buying 2 lip kits so i got two free. With shipping this cost £72.90, which converted to around £52 which isn't bad for 4 lip kits. For those of you who haven't yet treated yourself to a lip kit, i am going to detail my experience and my thoughts on the lip kits so you can decide if they are worth investing in or not.

Lets start with the ordering process, the more boring aspect of buying online. As someone living in the UK there is no easy way to get Kylie Cosmetics in the UK. I found it super easy to order on the website, it is pretty self explanatory. However if you are ordering during a promotion you do select the free items in the basket rather than adding them and there being a reduction at the till. I ordered 4 shades; Koko K, Candy K, Poise K, Kristen. I placed my order, got my confirmation and started the long wait for them to arrive. For international shipping it is supposed to take 3-6 business days for processing, the shipping should then take 10-21 business days. This is a long time! Considering Sephora can get your products to you in 6 days, whereas you could end up waiting almost a month for Kylie products to arrive. I do wish there was an option for express shipping even if you have to spend more money on it. Another problem is that during holidays or promotions it can take even longer than this and that is what happened with my package. I received my confirmation email and waited on an email to say that my parcel was being shipping. 5 days later i received an email but it said Sorry We're Late, my order was yet to be processed. In the end it took 2 weeks for my order just to be processed. Once it had been processed it look 3 days to travel from the US and 7 days to make it to my local post office. This did impress me considering shipping can take up to 21 days.

Of course this didn't mean that it came straight to my house, it meant that i needed to go and collect it because i had a hefty customs charge. The note very kindly put through my letterbox told me that i needed to pay £27.97 to receive my parcel. I'm not going to say i completely understand how custom charges work but to break it down there is a £8 handling fee from the Royal Mail and then around £5 for each item in the box. This is quite a lot of money for some lipsticks and it does hike up the costs and makes me question whether it was worth it.

When you first apply the liquid lipstick it is quite thin, similar to the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks which are my absolute favourites. It has quite a small applicator which makes it very easy to apply and keep the shape you have created with the lip liner. It dries very quickly and completely matte which i love but i know isn't for everyone. Some people don't like how dry these are but i don't think they are uncomfortable. Unfortunately they do leave your lips feeling rather dehydrated. This dry down does mean that they have no transfer and they are very long lasting. In fact these are some of the most long lasting liquid lipsticks and they don't wear down weird/patchy. Because of the formula i can see why everyone has gone mad for the Kylie Lip Kits as they are rather good.

The smell of these has been quite polarising. Some people say it is too sweet and artificial but i actually quite like it, it reminds me of the Frijj Strawberry Milkshakes. The smell is strong and you can still smell it when it is on your lips. This scent is consistent throughout all of Kylie's lip products.

It is one of these rare occasions that i completely love every single shade i bought. The first two shades i knew i wanted were Koko K and Candy K which were two of the original shades Kylie came out with. Koko K is a gorgeous muted cool toned pink which looks like strawberry milkshake, so you can look like it and smell like it too. Candy K looks like a liquid version of MAC's Velvet Teddy melted down. It is a pink toned nude which is easily one of my favourite shades ever. I picked Poise K and Kristen as my two free lip kits. Posie K is lovely, it is a deeper pink which has quite a purpley hint on my pale skin. I've really enjoy using this with a purple hint to my eye shadow. The final shade, Kristen looks quite coral in the tube. It reminds me of the Jeffree Star x Manny MUA Velour Liquid Lipstick in I'm Shook when you look at them both in the tubes but when Kristen is applied it looks more cool toned, like a classic red. The shade gets darker as it wears which i don't mind; Kristen isn't my fave but i will still wear it.

There isn't really much to say about the lip liners. They are quite creamy, definitely not as stiff as MAC lip liners which is what i am used to using. They are very pigmented so you don't have to work hard to get the shape. The shades match perfectly with the lipsticks and i don't have a single complaint about them. The liners also help the liquid lipstick to last longer and i find they sit better with the liner underneath so it is worth using them.

I kind of wanted to hate these liquid lipsticks as they are so hyped and they are hard for me to get but i am a member of that hype, i love these. They are the formula of liquid lipstick i love; long lasting, pigmented and stunning shades. For the amount of money i spent in total which was around £80 i got 4 lip kits which makes them around £20 each. I would spend £20 on a lipstick so they aren't unreasonably priced but i didn't pay for two of the lip kits so i hate to think how much this would have been if i had to pay for it all. If i were to buy from Kylie Cosmetics again i would wait for some form of promotion, so i can get more for my money. I am so glad i can finally say i've tried them and i really like them. If you want to try them, you should but really consider the costs especially if you live in the UK because the customs charge is ridiculous. If you want to read more about Kylie Cosmetics i will be writing about the Gloss i was very kindly given for free so keep an eye out for that.
